공항 (Gonghang)
English Translation: airport
Example Sentence: 공항으로 가는 버스 맞아요? (Gonghangeuro ganeun beoseu majayo?) — Is this the right bus for the airport?
The first Korean airport vocabulary that we will learn is, of course, the airport 공항 (Gonghang). When we talk about airport, the gateway to South Korea is the Incheon International Aiport (인천국제공항 | incheongukjegonghang). Other airports in South Korea include Gimpo International Airport, Gimhae International Airport, and Jeju International Airport.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Incheon International Aiport is very strict. Arrivals from countries with high risk are subject to verification of negative test results. But before the pandemic, the daily average of people who use Incheon International Airport is at 203,528.

비행기 (Bihaenggi)
English Translation: airplane/ plane
Example Sentence: 비행기는 열시에 공항에 착륙할 것입니다. (Bihaenggineun yeolsie gonghange changnyukhal geosimnida. ) — The plane will land at the airport at ten o’clock.
The airplane (비행기 | Bihaenggi) is one of the biggest factors to enjoy your travel experience. Everyone wants a safe, clean, and convenient plane ride. In Korea, they have Korean Air which is the largest airline and flag carrier of South Korea. Korean Air offers a safe and convenient travel experience. Here are a few cabin tips to remember:
- The in-flight temperature is 23–25°C so, the recommended clothes to wear are long-sleeved tops and pants. For girls, you can also wear skirts made of thin fabric.
- Due to the low humidity inside the aircraft, it is advised to keep yourself hydrated. If you are wearing contact lenses, use your glasses in the meantime to prevent dryness and inflammation. If you’re into skincare, it is advisable to use moisturizer to keep your skin moisturized.
- The in-flight atmospheric pressure is kept constant between 5,000 and 8,000 feet (1,524 and 2,438 meters). If you feel discomfort, try to yawn, gently blow your nose, or drink water. If you’re with a child, it may help if you give them food or a bottle of milk.
- Because of the continuous innovations and improvements, Korean Air’s panels and seats have reduced noise. You can also ask for earphones if you want to.
- Korean Air cannot fully ensure that the flight is allergy-free for passengers with allergies because of the passengers’ hand-carry items. So it’s better to check in with your doctor before you take a flight and bring allergy medicine in case of emergency.
비행 (Bihaeng)

Example Sentence: 비행시간이 얼마나 돼요? (Bihaeng shigan ee ulmana dweyo?)- How long is the flight?
Flight 비행 (Bihaeng) is another Korean airport vocabulary that you need to learn. Make sure to know all your flight details like flight schedule and flight number to avoid problems and inconvenience.

여권 (Yeogwon)
English Translation: passport

The passport (여권 | Yeogwon) is definitely one of the most important documents you need when you travel. In case you lose your passport, immediately seek the help of the authorities. This is where your basic Korean words and phrases may come in handy.
비자 (Bija)
English Translation: visa
Example Sentence: 비자를 보여주세요 Bijareul boyeojuseyo — Please show your visa.
Another must-learn Korean airport vocabulary is visa (비자 | Bija). If you want to get a Korean visa, you should go to the Korean embassy in your country to check the requirements. The process may take you a while and will cost you a lot of money, but it will surely be worth it.
비행기표 (Bihaeng-gipyo)
English Translation: plane ticket, flight ticket
Example Sentence: 비행기표는 얼마입니까? bihaeng-gipyoneun eolmaibnikka? — How much is a plane ticket?
Buying a plane ticket (비행기표 | Bihaeng-gipyo) nowadays can be done online. The ticket’s cost is way cheaper when you buy it months prior to your desired flight schedule. Check the flight details on your ticket carefully to avoid problems. Put your ticket where you can easily locate it but make sure it won’t be too easy for other people to get it.
짐 (Jim)
English Translation: luggage
Example Sentence: 이쪽에 당신의 짐을 놓아주세요. Ijjoge dangsine jimeul noajuseyo — Please put your luggage here.
Securing your luggage 짐 (Jim) is important when you’re in the airport. Airports have the required weight of luggage. You can check the website of the airport to check the minimum weight of luggage. Additional payment will be charged for those who exceed.
There are also products and objects that are prohibited upon check-in. Airports use metal detectors and X-ray Machines for the safety of all the passengers on board.
탑승권 (Tapseunggwon)
English Translation:- boarding pass
Example Sentence: -나는 탑승권을 바구니에 넣었어요 Naneun tapseunggwoneul bagunie neoeosseoyo — I put my boarding pass in the basket.
The boarding pass (탑승권 | Tapseunggwon) is another important Korean airport vocabulary because you won’t be able to board.
도착 (Dochak) / 출발 (Chulbal)
English Translation: arrival / departure
Example Sentence: 내 도착 시간은 무엇입니까? Nae dochak sigan-eun mueos-ibnikka? What is my arrival time?
We can’t talk about Korean airport vocabulary without learning arrival 도착 (Dochak) and departure (출발 | Chulbal). For K-pop fans, waiting for the arrival and departure of their idols is one of the happiest and most satisfying moments.
